Religious School at EHNT

We are proud to introduce the community to our  Religious School We are sure it will provide an exciting and rewarding educational program.

Our Program =On Site

Primary Grades (Kg, 1st and 2nd): Students study Biblical heroes, Bible stories, Tzedakah, and Jewish Festivals. A Pre-Hebrew program stressing Oral Language is also taught. One day only. on Shabbat

Hebrew School (3rd through 7th grade): Classes emphasize Festival Observances, Prayer, and Judaism as it relates to Torah, Israel, and God. Jewish history is also presented, and integrated with a Hebrew curriculum focusing on prayer. MeetsTwo days a week-Shabbat and Tuesday

Lehrhaus (8th through 10th grade): Students in grades 8 through 10 undertake Jewish study side-by-side with their parents in a program leading to Confirmation. These classes deal with more advanced ethical and moral issues of modern Jewish life, incorporating studies of comparative Judaism and comparative religion.

Our Faculty

Our faculty is a group of creative, professional educators dedicated to the idea that each child deserves an exciting Jewish education where everyone feels valued. Their goal is to provide the future with Jews who will have a strong Jewish identity throughout their lives, and who, through each of their unique strengths, will help contribute to the development of the Jewish People.

Our Policy

We at EHNTJC realize that the school tuition and fees can be an extra burden to many families. Therefore, EHNTJC has several incentive programs designed to help you start your child's Jewish education. These include school scholarships for those in need, and specially designed first year dues/tuition packages that allow families to try out our synagogue and Religious School at very reasonable rates.

  • Do you live too far from a religious school for your child to be educated in a

classroom environment? Or are you unsatisfied with your child's current

religious school education?

  • Do you miss parental involvement in your child's Jewish learning?

  • Do the fights over conflicting activities and carpooling drive you crazy?

  • Does your child like learning via the computer?

  • Introducing the world's first and only internet based Hebrew school, for children ages 8-13.

This program utilizes information available on the web, plus much of our own
creation, in a curriculum organized by us.
It assumes parent-child engagement and cooperation in the learning process,
as they work through the material.

-The latest direction in Jew

-The secular university is moving mucish education is geared toward family

involvement. h more in the direction of independent learning as well as learning

via the web.

This article from the Chicago tribune recently helps explain:"one theme is a shift
from a passive model of absorbing a lecturer's words to a more active one
where lecturers guide and measure, but students learn the material more
independently.
"In a traditional course the faculty are doing
all the work and the students are watching," said Carol Twigg, president and CEO of the National Center
for Academic Transformation, which is working with hundreds of universities
to improve giant courses. "In a redesigned course, students are doing the work
and faculty are stepping in as needed."

Our programs is based on students learning under parent supervision, outside of

the traditional classroom, with support of a teacher and tutor available to assist.

-We also take advantage of the revolution in communication-the resources on the

web, as well as the prolific Jewish educational resources our Rabbi has created

on the web.We are also cognizant of the overwhelming challenges families today

face in juggling all the family needs. This program allows the student and parents

to work at their timetable and largely avoids the need to shlep.

-At the same time, there appears to be less family interactive activities today, and

especially centered around Jewish living. Many parents did not grow up Jewishly

or had very little Jewish educations, so this will acheive multiple benefits. This will

prove beneficial on both counts.

-Most importantly, evidence seems clear that standard religious schools in their

current format, achieve little, and may even be counter productive. This view

enjoys wide support among Jewish educators. We believe childfren will learn and

retain more, and enjoy it more since it means more parent time and, interaction,

uses a "cool" medium, and can be done at the families discretion time-wise,

obviating many conflicts.

Our philosophy is that every Jewish child is entitled to a Jewish education. Abraham Lapson Hebrew School offers a warm and lively Jewish atmosphere where children can attain a unique and exciting awareness of their Jewish identity.

Indeed, a child equipped with an education and a feeling for Judaism’s beautiful teachings, traditions, and historical lessons is a child better equipped to face the awesome moral challenges of today’s society.

WELCOME!
Jewish tradition has always promoted a loving approach from one human to another. We are dedicated to making the richness of our Jewish inheritance accessible to the contemporary Jew, every Jew, no matter what their affiliation or level of religious observance.

OUR HEBREW SCHOOL
We create an environment that brings Judaism to life, fosters creativity and supports your child's unique style of learning. We use a unique approach which is hands-on and stimulates your child's intellect. Our curriculum has been designed to make a lasting, positive impact on the life of your child.
JUDAISM COMES ALIVE!
Through drama, song, art and stories we bring Judaism to life. Our innovative methods make learning fun and memorable. We teach history by showing Jewish history alongside secular history, a method that encourages critical thinking. Through our Mitzvah curriculum we emphasize each Mitzvah's meaning for everyday life, in addition to the how-to of ritual observance. Our Hebrew language curriculum ensures that your child will be able to read from a Siddur (prayer book). More than that, your child will understand the meaning of many of the prayers. No matter what synagogue your child affiliates with later in life, she or he will share the language of prayer with Jews around the world.

Our school’s underlying approach is for the children to enjoy the time spent so that they are left with positive feelings and fond memories of their Jewish education.  Our program is thus carefully blended with songs, games, incentives, arts and crafts, drama, field trips, family celebrations and other exciting co-curricular activities.

We encourage you to spread the word to your family and friends about this unique learning program and, as a parent, to get involved, ask questions, and keep in touch with our school. You may very well discover that your child’s Hebrew school education at Abraham Lapson Hebrew School will add an enriching, spiritual dimension to the lives of your entire family.
Language
Our students become familiar with the Hebrew alphabet, learn to read, and become accustomed to Hebrew vocabulary. This subject also familiarizes our students with the Siddur- Prayer Book, allowing them to feel comfortable in the Synagogue.
Torah
This subject offers an overview of the weekly Torah portion, its highlights and practical lessons relevant to our day and age.
History
We take our students from Creation to modern-day Israel including the Exodus from Egypt, The Ten Commandments and the era of the Prophets and Kings. We also focus on Jewish life in medieval times, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust and Jewish Heroes of Yesteryear.
Holidays
Lessons on each Jewish holiday with hands-on demonstrations fill the calendar as we proceed from Rosh Hashana through the holiday of Shavuot.

Jewish Values
Perhaps the most important component of a Jewish education is the understanding that our religion is based on a G-d given set of values and ethics. Our students learn the Mitzvot and gain an appreciation for their relevance in the 21st century.
Arts and Crafts
We create projects that have Jewish holiday and mitzvah themes and will add an elegant taste of Jewish decor to your home.
Israel
Our students understand that Israel is not just another country but our own homeland. A land that is truly the “Promised Land”, both spiritually and physically.
