We had a lot of fun today in class and continued to embolden the
knowledge we already knew with different activities and exercises. We
started with Havdalah today and it appeared that kids took a more
active role in this ritual than in weeks past. Perhaps they are gaining
confidence in the prayer and ritual. In addition, we also reviewed some
of the things we knew about Havdalah and the meaning of the different T’filot.
After, we met with Rabbi Weill in the small chapel to practice several different prayers for Maariv. The Rabbi also told us about the Koleinu service and how the prayers we were practicing for Maariv are featured in that service.
After we had snack followed by the students reading up on Tu B’Shvat. While they were reading on that, I would call a student over one at a
time to do some individual reading practice with me. I specifically had
them showing me where they were on different T’filot that are in Maariv or the Shabbat morning service.
Lastly, we played a "bingo" style game where I would ask a question about either Tu B’Shvat or Pesah. The answer would be the box that they could check off. I was impressed with how much they picked up from the reading on Tu B’Shvat.
In addition, I just want to remind the parents and students that
outside food is not to be brought to class. We have snack and the kids
are able to eat during school. In addition, please make sure that ALL
students have a head covering for both Tuesdays and Saturdays. A large
bow is acceptable for girls if they prefer.
