We had a great day today in class and it was a day where many of
our students participated and showed how much knowledge they’ve acquired
throughout the year. We began doing our Havdallah ritual and Rabbi Weill joined us. It was nice and I believe the students showed a little more ruach this time. After, we stayed in the social hall and practiced Maariv with Rabbi Weill. We did Shalom Alechem and
in addition, studied what the prayer meant in English in order to
provide the students a bit more perspective. After, we practiced doing
the Kiddush for Friday nights.
Following this we had snack and did the Brachot. Around 5:25 the students read about the concept of Aliyah – how that means "to go up" in Hebrew and how that can apply to going up to read the Torah or immigrating to Israel. At the same time, I would call a student to sit with me individually to practice reading specific words from the different T’filot we are learning from the Maariv service.
Lastly, we continued to practice specific reading skills with challenging words. We did this through playing a game of Bingo.
