Hey Class Recap for January 23 2016

Rabbi Weil introduced the Parsha “BeShalach” We followed with a Shabbat service led by Alyssa and Verlin.  Daniel and Alyssa had an aliah, as well as 3 students from Josh’s class.

In class we did the following: 

Weekly Parsha BeShalach

Students read this week’s portion in Exodus. The studens discussed the events in this Parsha regarding the events at the Red sea: the songs of praise by Moses and Miriam and the battle against Amalek.

Bet, Gimmel and Dalet

This Saturday was a fun and productive class session. The students showed a little more ruach in their davening. Certain students are also showing more enthusiasm in leading the services or when being called up for an Aliyah. This week, Sammy helped lead the service with a few of the older students. Ashley and Molly were both called up for Aliyot.

We started class with the students who worked on their “Solomon’s Temple “ posters and we practiced a couple of the Friday night prayers. Later we did the following:

Tanach: King I (Chapter 18)

Student read the chapter and worked in pairs to write  answers to questions regarding the encounter of Elijah with King Ahab and the prophets of Baal .  We followed with a review of the answers so everyone had a chance to correct their answer sheet.

Bet, Gimmel and Dalet

 

Saturday was a fun and productive session for the Bet, Gimmel, and
Dalet students. We started class by co-leading our weekly Shabbat
Service with the older students. Leo helped lead this week’s service.
Sam and Sarah were called up for Aliyot. The students are showing
a little more confidence in reciting their prayers. We encourage them
to keep practicing the prayers outside of class.

We started class with 5 students who worked on their "Solomon’s Temple" posters.  Later we did the following:

Tanach: King I (Chapter 17)

Students read the chapter and worked in pairs to write  answers to questions regarding the reign of king Ahab and the prophet Elijah.  We followed with a review of the answers so everyone had a chance to correct their answer sheet.

Bet, Gimmel and Dalet Class Recap for January 12 2016

Class: Bet, Gimmel and Dalet

Today was a strong bounce back day from last week. The kids showed tremendous improvement in terms of ruach and focus, especially during the periods of the day where we did T’filah. We began quickly reviewing some of the prayers for the Saturday morning service. All of the students volunteered to sing in front of the class the Barchu, the prayer one sings when going up for an Aliyah. The kids are growing in confidence and ability!

Rabbi Weil introduced the Parsha “Va’era” We followed with a Shabbat service led by Ruthi and Julia. Verlin and Alyssa handled the Torah. Ariana and Alyssa had an Alia as well as 2 students from Josh’s class.
In class we did the following: 

 Weekly Parsha Va’era

Students read this week’s portion  in  Genesis.  Questions concerning the events in this Parsha regarding  Moses’ mission and the 10 plagues. Students answered and we discussed.

Bet, Gimmel and Dalet Class Recap for January 9 2016

Saturday was a fun and productive day in our Bet, Gimmel and Dalet class. First, we discussed this week’s Parsha from Exodus titled Va’eira. Rabbi Weill discussed the story of Pharaoh, and the turmoil Jews experienced in Egypt. No matter how bitter their lives were, the Parsha still teaches us an important moral, the importance of being grateful for the things we have.
